Face Lift

Some of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures are performed on the face. The face can be divided into three aesthetic units:

  • Upper Face: Forehead, eyebrows and upper lids
  • Middle Face: Cheeks, lower lids and nose
  • Lower Face: Mouth, chin and neck

These aesthetic units are studied and analyzed by your physician, who will present a customized plan for rejuvenation. The desired results can be achieved using state-of-the-art technological developments combined with the expertise and surgical skills of your plastic surgeon.

The Upper Face

The upper face analysis includes the position of the hairline, wrinkling of the forehead and frown lines. The position of the eyebrows is of extreme importance in defining the beauty of the eye area. A downward descent of the eyebrow is aesthetically unappealing as it results in an angry, tired look. However, most important is the eyebrow's contribution to the overhooding of the upper eyelids. Such deformities should be analyzed and approached on an individual basis because the brow, with its thick, hairy skin, should be differentiated from the thin, mobile skin of the upper lids. If the surgeon does not take this into consideration, the thick brow skin may be pulled down to the eyelid skin, resulting in an abnormal appearance.

Dealing with the muscles of the forehead, eye, brow and nose will soften the wrinkles of the frown, the upper nose and crows' feet. It is of utmost importance to understand the interaction of those muscles; otherwise, abnormal asymmetry is likely.

New endoscopic techniques used on the upper face leave a minimal amount of scarring. The endoscopic surgery leaves a few small one-inch or shorter scars instead of a scar from ear to ear.

The Middle Face

The middle face analysis and repair plan is customized to the individual. With the help of aging and gravity, the cheek fat drops down, resulting in a lower cheek, hollowness and accumulation of fat within the region of the nasolabial fold. The result is a deeper fold and a sad, angry, aging appearance.

Before After

The physician uses a lower lid incision to reposition the fat and muscles, resulting in a higher cheekbone, filling in of cheek hollowness and softening of the nasolabial fold. Muscle work can elevate the corner of the mouth and reduce the wrinkles around the mouth. The result is a younger, healthier appearance.

The bags of the lower eyelids contain pockets of fat. In the past, these fat pockets would simply be removed. Today's rejuvenation procedures, however, enable the physician to redistribute this fat to fill hollow areas of the eye socket, reducing what may be a sunken eye appearance.

The Lower Face

The lower face deals primarily with the chin, whether small and receding, prominent and large, or drooping down into a "witch's chin" deformity. The extent of any of these deformities should be appropriately analyzed with a customized plan for repair.

Your physician should examine your neck for fat accumulation, whether above or below the muscle. When the neck muscles age, they will loosen, separate and cease to act as a tight sling as in younger people. The repair plan should include removing excess fat if needed, but more importantly, repairing the muscle to reestablish the tight sling and rejuvenate the entire neck.
