Forehead Lift and Brow Lift
Upper face aging contributes to the aging look
of the orbital region and of the face in general. As the aging
of the forehead progresses, muscle tone deteriorates, gravity
pulls the forehead down and with it the brows are pulled down,
thus crowding the eyelids. The descend of the eyebrows leads to
a sad and to an angry look, depending on which part of the brow
drops down.
Several options are
available, depending on the exact deformity to be corrected.
Correction of frown
lines, which are the result of an overactive muscle, the corrugator
muscles.
Frown lines can be
smoothed by:
- Botox® injections which paralysis
the muscle rendering it nonfunctional, thus smoothing the frown
lines. Botox® action is temporary and lasts 3-5 months before
the muscle regains its activity. Botox® injections into the muscle
can be repeated if desired.
- Elevation of the brow, correction
of frown lines, correction of transverse forehead lines all
can be achieved with endoscopic forehead lift. Through 4-5 small
incisions within the hairline the endoscope is introduced and
the muscle is removed or weakened thus getting rid of the deep
frown lines. The forehead and eyebrows are then lifted to the
appropriate level to smooth the forehead and reposition the
eyebrows.
Endoscopic brow lift
does not widen the forehead nor create bald areas in the scalp.
The surg ery
is done under local anesthesia with twilight sedation. After the
surgery, dressing around the forehead stays in place for one week,
and bruising and swelling takes 2-3 weeks to resolve.
Peri-orbital rejuvenation
requires an understanding of the standards of beauty regarding
the position of the eyebrows and their relationships to the eyes
and of the shape and position of the eyebrow.
