Liposuction, tummy tuck, or a combination of both can give you the figure you want. These procedures remove localized pockets of fat accumulation and excess skin. During the procedure the muscles are also tightened. This results in a dramatic improvement in appearance of the abdomen. The result is a tighter, flatter, firmer stomach and a narrower waist line. At the Maryland Cosmetic Surgery Center, Baltimore cosmetic surgeon Dr. Shureih pays attention to your cincerns in order to achieve the figure you desire.
The pubis falls down and ages, with folds and fat accumulation. We can rejuvenate and lift the pubis area for a better look and superb results. The belly button can also be tightened and better positioned.
Using different techniques and advances in cosmetic surgery, we utilize tumescent liposuction, suction assisted lipectomy, and ultrasound liposuction to achieve the results that are best suited for each individual patient.
The best candidates for such a procedure are men and women who are in good health, but have localized fat deposits and loose skin around the abdomen which is resistant to diet and exercise. Skin can not be tightened by exercise; it has to be surgically removed. Loose skin can not be tightened by exercise.
Tummy tuck results are particularly dramatic in women who have had multiple pregnancies or given birth to larger babies. This causes the muscles and skin of the abdomen to stretch, causing stretch marks and laxity of the skin to occur. During pregnancy, the muscles are stretched causing separation of the muscles and protrusion of the abdomen. When this happens, all available surgical techniques and innovations are utilized to achieve a flat abdomen and tight muscles. In some milder conditions all what is required is Liposuction and a mini-abdominoplasty. This results in a small incision line which is hidden in the bikini line.
There are several approaches to the tummy tuck; all involve an incision in the lower abdomen just above the pubic area. The design of the incision determines where the maximal pull is and also determines the definition of the waist. The incision is usually put within the bikini line. All these options will be discussed with you during the initial consultation. Dr. Shureih will guide you with your choices and will explain the best procedure for your specific needs.
Abdominoplasty is usually done as an outpatient procedure under general Anesthesia. After surgery, soreness and discomfort can be well controlled with medication. We also will use a new innovation called the Pain Pump to make you more comfortable. After the surgery, you should avoid over-activity and straining for approximately three weeks. Full activity and exercise may be resumed by the fourth week. Most patients are back to work within two weeks.
The results are evident almost immediately after surgery and you will enjoy the new look with a flatter, firmer abdomen and a narrower waist line! The scar in the bikini line will fade with time. Abdominoplasty can also be combined with a medial thigh lift, a lateral thigh lift and a buttock lift; in that case it is called a lower body lift or circumferential body lift.

Stretch marks removal
The only definitive treatment for stretch marks is the tummy tuck. The trade off of the stretch marks of the lower abdomen is a well placed scar within the bikini line, well hidden from site. To get an idea of what skin can be safely removed, a horizontal line can be drawn from just above the belly button (umbilicus) to the hair line and the hips laterally. A gentle curve downward from each hip is drawn with the lowest part of the line lying 2.5 inches above the pubic bone. This is the average amount of skin removed during an abdominoplasty. The abdomen is then elevated stretch it over the lower abdomen. The abdominal wall muscles are tightened to restore the tightness of the AB muscles. This provides a nice hour-glass appearance to the waist. If the lower abdomen skin contains the majority of the stretch marks, then abdominoplasty may be the ideal procedure to get rid of stretch marks. The remaining stretch marks move down with the stretched skin.
The cost of a tummy tuck is usually 4,000-6,000 dollars plus the anesthesia and facility fees. Many patients have spent several thousand dollars on various creams and treatments over the years before they resolve to get a tummy tuck. Every surgery carries with it risks and benefits and it is important to discuss these risks with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon prior to having the procedure.
